TRICARE partners with regional contractors to help deliver the TRICARE benefit. Regional contractors provide support beyond what’s available at military hospitals and clinics and are your go-to resource for information and assistance.
In January 2018, TRICARE regions changed. Instead of three geographical regions that existed before (TRICARE West, TRICARE North, and TRICARE South), TRICARE is now divided into two regions across the United States, with each region having its own TRICARE contractor: TRICARE East and TRICARE West. TRICARE East is managed by Humana Military; TRICARE West is managed by Healthnet Federal Services. These arrangements are governed by contracts. Thus, the contractor managing each region is subject to change over time. DHA’s hope in consolidating the regions is to minimize some of the challenges associated with PCS moves and to enhance continuity of care among military dependents. From getting a diagnosis to a pathway to care, both regions have set up specific autism web pages and flyers, giving step-by-step information for families whose children are or may be on the autism spectrum.
